Meet the Midwife

About Me
My name is Tara and I became a mother in 1995, to our first son Caleb. My heart just burst with love for that sweet little red head. I couldn't imagine it possible for that love to grow or expand. What seemed impossible, was entrusted to me and my heart grew and burst with love for each one of them. It's like a total miracle, I will forever treasure. In my thirty years of parenting, I can profess that growing and expanding is essential to mothering.
My midwifery journey
As the primary midwife, I bring 16 years of experience in birth care to my practice.
Since attending Heart and Hands midwifery intensive in 2008, I supported over 800 families as a doula, "A Pure Joy Doula Services" in the Bay Area.
In 2018, I enrolled in National Midwifery Institute, engaging in six years of academic and clinical apprenticeship, which included hundreds of both home and birth center births.
In 2024, I was Certified through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) Professional Midwife (CPM), and Licensed Midwife in California (LM).
Beliefs & Values
I believe we are uniquely designed to grow, birth, love and nurture new life. Pregnancy and birth are normal physiological processes that often unfold beautifully without intervention. In the process, WE are being made new and given the strength and fortitude to do the work of loving, growing, and expanding. This is why, as a midwife, I believe in:
Comprehensive care that affirms and respects women's ability to birth with confidence.
The strength and resiliency of women to know and choose what is best for her and her baby.
Relationships that nourishes trust and empowers mothers to make wise decisions guided by her intuition, self agreement and fierce courage.
Care based on five key principles of; continuity of care, informed choice, community based, choice of birth setting and evidence-informed practice.
